What is recuperation?

Recuperation is the recovery of kinetic energy in electrical current that flows back into the battery.

If you take your foot off the accelerator pedal, an electric car does not continue unbraked, but slows down.

This has the advantage that in most situations the brake is no longer needed and no energy is lost through braking. However, only about 2/3 of the kinetic energy can be recovered in this way. The most energy-saving method is to brake or recuperate as little as possible.
