Efficiency Champion: Model 3 with Only 13.5 kWh Consumption
Recent measurements certify that the Model 3 has an exceptionally low power consumption of around 13.5 kWh per 100 kilometers. This made the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 the most efficient electric car to date in Edmunds' test, even undercutting the manufacturer's laboratory figures by 13 percent. The sedan also impressed in terms of range: it went 48 kilometers farther than the EPA figure (American value). The picture is not entirely flawless, however: when charging, the Model 3 proves less commanding. While the peak of 246 kW was only just below the factory specification of 250 kW, only 161 kilometers could be recharged in 12 minutes – which reveals its real weakness. In the charging table, the best Tesla lands only in 39th place, well behind models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6, Mercedes CLA, Audi A6 E-tron, or Kia EV6. Nevertheless, the Tesla beat its direct competitors such as the Mercedes CLA EQ 350 and the Audi A6 E-tron, even though both German electric cars offer significantly more battery capacity in some cases. Only the Mercedes CLA EQ 250+ went even farther, but consumed more energy in doing so. High efficiency thus remains the decisive advantage of the Model 3.
