Tesla Loses Ground in the German Used Electric Car Market
For a long time, Tesla was regarded as the top dog when it came to used electric cars in Germany – but that lead is now shrinking significantly. A recent study shows that the brand has lost its leading position in the used car segment and has fallen back to a low. Among the causes are the expanded offerings of established manufacturers with a broad model range, as well as the large waves of returning leased vehicles from the VW ID., Škoda Enyaq and Opel Corsa-e, which are now arriving on the used market in large numbers. On top of this, Tesla has cut the prices of its new cars several times since 2023. These new-car price cuts have put pressure on the residual value of older used models. At the same time, the data show no absolute decline: Tesla is not selling less than before, but the rest of the market has overtaken the brand.
